ABOUT: This was another assignment from English class freshman year. We had to write a poem about ourselves based on one we read that was written by Jewel, using the same basic format she did. So here's mine. Click here to read more poems.

Me

I have brown hair
I dye it very often
I have my father's nose
My mother's looks
I have braces
And dark brown eyes
I write poems
I used to get hurt a lot
I like being in the dark
But my hair is still dyed
And I still have braces
And I probably won't always like
Being in the dark

I have eyes that always cry
I have lips that smile
I shake when I'm nervous
I hurt for no reason
But wish I could always be happy
I like light rain
I've been fidgety since a child
I love the smell of coffee
But hate the way it tastes
I've cheated on tests
I've lied on questionnaires
But I still smile
And my eyes still cry

I have a strong soul
I have pale skin
I have square toes I
Borrowed from my mother
I have long legs
Which bruise easily
My right ring finger is strange
I write
I used to play in the sand
I turn on a lamp before bed
I cheated on homework
I faked a silly British accent
But I still have pale Portuguese skin
And I probably won't always have
A strong soul
And I may not always write poems
But maybe I'll start
Playing
In sand again
